Research
Finding unique research projects is at the heart of what we do.
MRC Centre for Medical Mycology, University of Exeter Noah’s Pink Balloon Fellowship
Our first project was with the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology at the University of Exeter for research into the deadly fungal infection mucormycosis, a feared complication in patients undergoing chemotherapy for Leukaemia and other malignancies, and in patients receiving a bone marrow or solid organ transplant.
Thanks to your support, we donated £110,000 and Noah’s Fellow, Dr. Alyssa Hudson graduated in December 2023.
Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity Current research project
In January 2024, we announced our collaboration with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children's Charity (GOSH Charity) on a research project being undertaken by Professor Waseem Qasim called 'Base Editing for Gentle Repair of Fragile DNA Disorders'. This project will investigate and progress a new DNA editing technique as a safer, more effective alternative to stem cell transplantation.
Stem cell transplants are often a vital part of blood cancer treatment, and this technique will also help children with genetic disorders. We have a minimum funding target of £125,000.
Great Ormond Street Hospital is one of the UK’s leading children’s research hospitals. The hospital is also where Noah was treated and lost his battle on 05th June 2020.
