Last month we reached our first major milestone and announced the much anticipated appointment of Noah's Pink Balloon Fellow at the University of Exeter's MRC Centre for Medical Mycology. Alyssa Hudson, a registrar in medical microbiology at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital will focus her research to develop rapid and easy-to-use diagnostics for Mucormycosis, funded by Noah's Pink Balloon Leukaemia Fund.
Alyssa said: "Fungal infection is an underfunded research area and receives far less investment than research into infections caused by bacteria and viruses. The funding from Noah's Pink Balloon Leukaemia Fund has made this Fellowship possible and will further research into this neglected and deadly fungal infection."
We are thrilled to have Alyssa as part of the wider team and were very excited to see her appearance on BBC Spotlight talking about her appointment and research.
BBC Spotlight, which covers the South West of England, featured Alyssa, and Professor Adilia Warris, Co-Director of the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology to discuss the vital fungal research they will be conducting. Chair and trustee, Susan Tesselaar was also interviewed to highlight Noah's story and why fundraising and raising awareness of the infection risk in leukaemia patients is so important.
